A Note About Shelter Dogs
Shelter Dogs, part of HBO's America Undercover series, was filmed at Rondout Valley Kennels in Accord, NY. Dr. Arnold Rugg and Dr. Peter Bixby were depicted in the film, providing services to the kennel. The filming took place over a period of months.
Dr. Rugg states the following:
"The film "Shelter Dogs" was edited down from many hours of film to 72 minutes. All the discussions before the euthanasias were edited out. The black cocker spaniel put down in the film had already bitten a number of people and was more aggressive than depicted in the part of the film seen. We had no control over the editing as it was done by HBO. I often refuse to perform a euthanasia, dealing with each case individually."
Rondout Valley Kennels provides a much needed service in our community, providing new homes for thousands of dogs. As in most communities, our county run shelters are overcrowded and unable to handle the demand.
We encourage anyone looking for a new family member to consider adoption of a displaced pet in need of a home.
